No Direction Home: Coventry Showcase - Online

No Direction Home

In association with Counterpoints Arts

No Direction Home is a comedy project created by Camden People’s Theatre, Counterpoints Arts, and award-winning comedian Tom Parry, which offers support to aspiring comics from refugee and migrant backgrounds. Come and be entertained by some new voices.

Hosted by Coventry-born comedian Stella Graham, supported by Yuriko Kontani, Edin Suljic, Yasmin Moradi and headlined by Shappi Korsandi, one of the country’s finest comedians.

Host - Coventry’s own Stella Graham

Stella is from Coventry and has performed all around the UK, Europe, New Zealand, Australia and the USA. She has taken 5 hour-long solo shows to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Brighton Fringe and Leicester Comedy Festival.

Headliner – Shappi Korsandi

Shappi established herself as one of the country’s finest comedians in 2006 with her sell out Edinburgh show, Asylum Speaker. This show led to the publication of her childhood memoirs, “A Beginner’s Guide To Acting English“, her bestselling literary debut. In typical Shappi style, this show told the story of how her family were forced to flee Iran and gain asylum in the UK.

Shappi’s career has taken her to all corners of the globe, she has appeared on countless TV & Radio shows including Mock The Week, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Have I Got News For You, QI, Just a Minute and other flagship radio 4 programmes.

Support - Yasin Moradi

Iranian-born Kung Fu Master-turned-actor who began his career performing at the Good Chance Dome in Calais. Most recently featured in the cast of Joe Murphy & Joe Robertson’s play The Jungle (dir. Stephen Daldry & Justin Martin) based on the experiences of refugees like himself in the camp. He has been performing stand-up comedy with No Direction Home since 2019.

Support - Edin Suljic

Edin Suljic is a published writer, poet and artist based in London. Edin spent his formative years in the multicultural, multinational society of former Yugoslavia, moving to the UK at the onset of the tragic Yugoslavian war in 1991. He has worked on several collaborative projects at the Tate Modern, and he performs his work at international literary festivals and venues.

His poetry collection, Personal Things and the Rest, was published by Haffan Books, 2018. He has been working with No Direction Home stand-up comedy project run by Counterpoints Arts since 2019.

Support - Yuriko Kontani

Yuriko Kotani is a UK-based Japanese comedian. She was named as ‘one to watch’ by Time Out and won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2015. She appeared on Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central, in BBC Three’s Pls Like, CBBC's The Dog Ate My Homework, Channel 4's Big Juice, Paul Hollywood Eats Japan and Soho Theatre’s online play The Boss of it All.
